What is the difference between the school bonus and the school allowance?

The school bonus is paid in August of each year for any child that was entitled to the Groeipakket in July. The school bonus is a boost at the start of the new school year. The school bonus is awarded automatically. You do not need to apply for it.

The school allowance for pupils in pre-school, primary, secondary education and Basisverpleegkunde (basic nursing training) is part of the Groeipakket since the 2019-2020 school year. The school allowance is an additional amount intended for families with limited income. To qualify for the school allowance, you must meet certain conditions. The amount you get depends on family income, family situation and type of education. The school allowance is granted automatically.
