When is your child considered to have sufficient school attendance to be entitled to the school supplement?

Preschoolers

Preschoolers must attend school on a minimum number of days. The number of days of mandatory attendance increases with age.

We also count your child as present on days on which your child did not go to school because the school or class was closed due to corona.

Not yet reached the age of 3 on 31 December of the year concerned

at least 100 half days at school

3 years of age on 31 December of the school year concerned

at least 150 half days at school

4 years of age on 31 December of the school year concerned

at least 185 half days at school

5 years of age on 31 December of the school year concerned

at least 290 half days at school

(in the 2019-2020 school year, at least 250 half days)

6 years of age or older on 31 December of the school year concerned

no more than 29 half days unduly absent

Preschoolers younger than five:

The number of half days at school is actual attendance. A preschooler who had insufficient attendance due to medical reasons, and can submit a valid certificate to that effect, shall be considered as adequately present. Contact your payment fund for this.

Preschoolers aged five:

The number of half days at school is actual attendance. If the school accepts the absence, for example due to sickness, we add this to the attendance days.

Preschoolers aged six and older:

These are subject to compulsory education and are thus unduly absent if they have no valid justification for not attending school. With, for example, a valid sick note, they are legally absent. They may be unduly absent for a maximum of 29 half days.

Primary and second education pupils

Pupils in primary school may be unduly absent for a maximum of 29 half days.

Pupils are unduly absent if they are absent from school without valid justification: with a valid sick note they are legally absent.

After deregistration from a school, the pupils must register again within 15 calendar days.

Loss of school allowance through inadequate attendance or too much undue absence

A child that in two consecutive school years has insufficient attendance (pre-school education) or more than 29 half days unduly absent (primary or secondary education) loses the allowance for the second school year.

Example: During the 2018-2019 school year, Jessie was unduly absent on 31 half days. In the 2019-2020 school year, she was absent on 30 half days. She loses the school allowance for the 2019-2020 school year.

The payment fund only knows whether there is a problem when the school year is completed. A problem therefore leads to reimbursement.
