When a child is placed in an institution, the institution receives two thirds of the family benefits for the child. One third goes to the beneficiary before the placement or is deposited on a savings account in the child's name.

This division only applies to the family benefits and not to the participation allowances.

For a child placed through Jeugdhulp (Opgroeien), the two thirds are paid to the Fonds Jongerenwelzijn.

A child placed in an institution is fully counted in the family where he or she lived before the placement for the determination of the family size and the calculation of the social allowance.
