When are payments made?

The birth benefit is paid in advance if an application was made for it. It can also be paid after the registration of your child's birth at the city or municipality where your child was born.

You can apply for advance payment of the birth benefit from the sixth month of pregnancy with a certificate from the gynaecologist stating that the sixth month has been reached. From two months before your expected due date, the birth benefit will be paid.

If you have not requested advance payment, the payment fund will only be informed of the birth of your child after your child's registration at the town or city hall. Thereafter, the payment fund will arrange payment.

With an adoption, you will receive the birth benefit as soon as the child becomes part of your family.

The basic amount for a given month is always paid around the 8th of the following month. The Groeipakket for the month of September, for example, is paid around 8 October.

If the 8th is a weekend day or a public holiday, your payment fund will pay your Groeipakket on the last work day before the 8th.

The orphan allowance, the foster care allowance and the care allowance for children with specific support needs for a particular month are also paid around the 8th of the following month, along with the basic amount.

The social allowance for a particular month is also paid around the 8th of the following month, along with the basic amount.

The support allowance for a particular month is also paid around the 8th of the following month, along with the basic amount.

The school bonus is paid annually in August along with the basic amount of September.

Childcare allowance

The childcare allowance is paid on the 20th of the month following the month concerned. If the 20th is a weekend day or a public holiday, it will be the next work day.

Toddler allowance

You will receive the toddler allowance for three-year-olds after your child's third birthday. The toddler allowance for four-year-olds you will receive after the fourth birthday, unless the payment fund has not yet received your child's number of attendance days at school. This condition does not apply to three-year-olds so that's why this may vary.

If your child is enrolled in kindergarten at the latest in the month of its third birthday and your payment fund has received the relevant information, the toddler allowance will be paid in the month following your child's third birthday.

If your child is enrolled in kindergarten at the latest in the month of its third birthday but your payment fund has not yet received the relevant information, the toddler allowance payment will only follow in the month following the month in which your payment fund receives the information.

If your four-year-old child remained enrolled and had sufficient attendance in kindergarten in a given school year, you will receive the toddler allowance in the month following its fourth birthday. If your payment fund has not yet received the information showing that your child remained enrolled in kindergarten and had sufficient attendance in a given school year, you will receive the toddler allowance in the month following the month in which your payment fund receives this information.

School allowance

The school allowance is paid once a year, between the end of August and December.
