There are five Flemish payment funds of the Groeipakket: the public payment fund FONS and the private payment funds Infino, Kidslife Vlaanderen, MyFamily and Parentia. They ensure that families (continue to) receive their Groeipakket in a correct and timely manner.
You choose your Groeipakket payment fund yourself. You can switch payment fund after being a member for one year. If you choose a new payment fund, that choice applies to all the children in your family. You will then remain a member for at least one year.
Are you expecting a child? Congratulations! The Groeipakket provides financial support for the birth or adoption of a child: the starting amount (previously maternity allowance and adoption premium).
You can apply for the starting amount at the earliest four months before the estimated date of birth. If you request the starting amount before the birth, you must also provide your payment fund with a doctor's certificate with the probable date of birth. You will receive the starting amount no earlier than two months before the anticipated date of birth. In the case of adoption, you will receive the starting amount as soon as the child forms part of your family.
Is it your first child? Apply for the starting amount from a Groeipakket payment fund of your choice.
It's not your first child? You can request the starting amount from your Groeipakket payment fund. If you choose a different payment fund, that choice applies to all the children in your family.
Did you already receive a starting amount for the birth or adoption of your child? Then you will automatically receive the monthly Groeipakket from the payment fund that paid your starting amount.
In other cases (e.g. you are moving to Flanders) you can apply for the Groeipakket yourself from a Groeipakket payment fund of your choice.
Some children are also entitled to a supplement to the Groeipakket.
You do not need to apply for the other allowances. Your payment fund automatically examines whether you are entitled to a social allowance and / or a participation allowance (childcare allowance, kindergarten allowance and school allowance). Your payment fund also automatically allocates the orphan allowance and the foster care allowance.
Children who do not live in Flanders, but attend a Dutch-speaking school or non-income-related childcare in Flanders or Brussels, may be entitled to a participation allowance.
You can apply for the childcare allowance, the kindergarten allowance and the school allowance from a Flemish payment fund of your choice. If you do not submit an application, you will still receive the allowance automatically if you are entitled to it, but the investigation may take longer.
