A child placed in a foster family is entitled to the Groeipakket foster care allowance in addition to the basic amount.

The foster care allowance is €68.23 per month.

The basic monthly amount goes to the foster family, for as long as the foster child is placed in the family.

For new placements and changes in placements from 2019 onwards, the type of foster care determines who receives the allowance.

If the foster child stays in the foster family for a long time (perspective-offering foster care), the foster care allowance is paid to the foster parent(s).

Is the plan for the foster child to return to his/her parents in the near future? In the case of short-term foster care (perspective-seeking foster care), the foster care allowance goes to the beneficiary for the placement. That usually means the biological parents.

No. You will receive the foster care allowance automatically from your Groeipakket payment fund if you are entitled to it.

The person who received the allowance prior to 2019 will continue to receive it as long as there is regular contact with the child and no change in placement.
